Two FCYSL coaches were honored at the annual Georgia Soccer Awards Luncheon on January 22nd. Jim Fair won the Boys Recreation Coach of the Year award while Chris Mahaffey won the Atlanta Beat Select Girls Coach of the Year award.

Jim has coached both Boys and Girls recreation teams for many years with FCYSL. Apart from having a high rate of returning players - something that of itself is a compliment to a recreation coach - Jim's teams have done well. He has had one of his girls teams win the State Recreation Championship while his boys won the district round of the Rec Cup last year. This award is truly deserving of one of the most dedicated coaches that our league has ever had.

Chris is a staff coach with AFC Lightning. His currently coaches the U13 Boys, U14 Girls and U15 Girls teams. The basis of his award was from the work done with the U15 girls last year. This team, The AFC Lightning 96 Elite, finished in first place in the fall in the Georgia Athena A division. In the spring and summer they went on to win the Georgia State Championship and made it to the semi-finals at the Region III Championships. This year they finished fourth in the Region III Premier League East, beating all other Georgia teams in the process. They are currently in second place in the US Youth Soccer National League with three games left to play. We wish Chris and his teams the greatest of success in the future.
